{"id":81484,"date":"2026-01-12T11:19:19","date_gmt":"2026-01-12T11:19:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/?p=81484"},"modified":"2026-01-12T11:19:19","modified_gmt":"2026-01-12T11:19:19","slug":"fct-road-disaster-runaway-coal-truck-kills-12-at-roadside-park","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/2026\/01\/12\/fct-road-disaster-runaway-coal-truck-kills-12-at-roadside-park\/","title":{"rendered":"FCT Road Disaster: Runaway Coal Truck Kills 12 at Roadside Park"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>By Adenike Lawal<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>No fewer than 12 people were killed on Sunday in a tragic road accident along the Yangoji Abaji corridor of the Federal Capital Territory after a coal laden truck rammed into a roadside motor park and crushed several vehicles.<br \/>\nThe Federal Road Safety Corps confirmed that the crash, which occurred around 11:45 a.m. at Gada Biyu, involved a Volvo Randon trailer and three other vehicles, with 18 persons affected.<br \/>\nEyewitnesses said the trailer, owned by African Natural Resources and Mines Ltd and conveying coal from Kagarko Local Government Area of Kaduna State, lost control and veered off the highway into an illegal roadside motor park, triggering a multiple vehicle collision.<br \/>\nThe FCT Sector Commander of the FRSC, Felix Theman, said the vehicles involved included two Volkswagen Golf cars, a Ford Sharon bus and the trailer. He attributed the accident to excessive speed and loss of control, noting that the presence of an illegal motor park worsened the impact.<br \/>\nAccording to him, 12 persons comprising adults and children died in the crash, while three others sustained injuries and were taken to Abaji General Hospital. Three persons reportedly escaped unhurt.<br \/>\nFRSC officials conducted rescue operations, administered first aid and recovered personal belongings at the scene.
