{"id":81414,"date":"2026-01-12T00:33:40","date_gmt":"2026-01-12T00:33:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/?p=81414"},"modified":"2026-01-12T00:33:40","modified_gmt":"2026-01-12T00:33:40","slug":"fg-enforces-no-work-no-pay-for-striking-health-workers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/2026\/01\/12\/fg-enforces-no-work-no-pay-for-striking-health-workers\/","title":{"rendered":"FG Enforces \u2018No Work, No Pay\u2019 for Striking Health Workers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>By Onyeanya Ebere Immaculata<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare has directed federal health institutions to stop paying the salaries of health workers participating in the ongoing strike by the Joint Health Sector Unions (JOHESU), and the Assembly of Health Care Professionals.<\/p>\n<p>The directive, contained in a circular dated January 8 and addressed to Chief Medical Directors and Medical Directors, said the action aligns with the Federal Government\u2019s \u201cNo work, no pay\u201d policy and will take effect from January 2026.<\/p>\n<p>Signed by the Director of Hospital Services, Dr Abisola Adegoke, on behalf of the Coordinating Minister, the memo instructed hospital managements to strictly enforce the policy against all striking workers.<\/p>\n<p>The ministry also directed hospital heads to ensure the continued provision of essential services, including accident and emergency care, labour wards and intensive care units, using lawful means such as engaging locum staff.<\/p>\n<p>Managements were further asked to guarantee the safety of lives and property and allow staff willing to work to do so without intimidation.<\/p>\n<p>The JOHESU strike, which began on November 14, 2025, has disrupted services across federal health facilities nationwide.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Onyeanya Ebere Immaculata The Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare has directed federal health institutions to stop paying the salaries of health workers participating in the ongoing strike by the Joint Health Sector Unions (JOHESU), and the Assembly of Health Care Professionals.
