{"id":81357,"date":"2026-01-09T08:25:25","date_gmt":"2026-01-09T08:25:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/?p=81357"},"modified":"2026-01-09T08:25:25","modified_gmt":"2026-01-09T08:25:25","slug":"2027-orji-kalu-withdraws-support-for-otti-vows-to-oppose-re-election","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/2026\/01\/09\/2027-orji-kalu-withdraws-support-for-otti-vows-to-oppose-re-election\/","title":{"rendered":"2027: Orji Kalu Withdraws Support for Otti, Vows to Oppose Re-election"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>By Huldah Shado<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, representing Abia North, has announced his withdrawal of support for Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, declaring that he will work against the governor\u2019s re-election ahead of the 2027 general elections.<\/p>\n<p>Kalu, a former governor of the state, said he would instead mobilise support for the All Progressives Congress (APC), insisting he would no longer back the Labour Party-led administration.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking on Thursday at his country home in Igbere, Kalu claimed he played a key role in Otti\u2019s victory in the 2023 governorship election.<\/p>\n<p>He attributed the fallout to a statement by the governor\u2019s Chief Press Secretary, Njoku Okaoha, which criticised him over his support for President Bola Tinubu and the APC.<\/p>\n<p>The senator said he had avoided criticising the state government since Otti assumed office but described the recent statement as the \u201cfirst salvo\u201d in the rift.<\/p>\n<p>Kalu questioned claims of the governor\u2019s performance, alleging that the administration had not executed major infrastructure projects and was only rehabilitating roads built during his tenure.<\/p>\n<p>He also accused the governor of neglecting rural communities.<\/p>\n<p>He concluded that supporting his party should not attract public attacks, stressing that he would work to ensure the APC\u2019s success in Abia State in 2027.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Huldah Shado Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, representing Abia North, has announced his withdrawal of support for Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, declaring that he will work against the governor\u2019s re-election ahead of the 2027 general elections.
