{"id":81247,"date":"2026-01-07T06:11:23","date_gmt":"2026-01-07T06:11:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/?p=81247"},"modified":"2026-01-07T06:11:23","modified_gmt":"2026-01-07T06:11:23","slug":"fct-council-polls-lp-urges-inec-to-upload-candidates-list","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/2026\/01\/07\/fct-council-polls-lp-urges-inec-to-upload-candidates-list\/","title":{"rendered":"FCT Council Polls: LP Urges INEC to Upload Candidates\u2019 List"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>By Patrick Idowu<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Labour Party (LP), in the Federal Capital Territory has urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), to comply with a court order by uploading its candidates for the February 26, 2026, area council elections.<\/p>\n<p>The party made the demand on Monday during a protest at the INEC headquarters in Abuja over the exclusion of its candidates from the commission\u2019s recently released list.<\/p>\n<p>LP North Central Zonal Chairman, Princess Licia Igbe, said the protest was prompted by INEC\u2019s refusal to obey a standing court order directing the inclusion of LP candidates.<\/p>\n<p>She called on the commission to immediately upload the party\u2019s candidates on its portal.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are here demanding that LP candidates be uploaded because a court order covers the upcoming FCT elections,\u201d she said, warning INEC against disenfranchising the party.<\/p>\n<p>The FCT LP Publicity Secretary, Eyisi Nwoke, described the exclusion as a deliberate attempt to block the party from participating in the polls, alleging that vested interests were uncomfortable with its growing popularity.<\/p>\n<p>Responding, INEC National Commissioner, Abdullahi Zuru, assured protesters that their petition and the court order would be reviewed, adding that the commission has a record of respecting judicial decisions.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen court orders conflict, we follow the prevailing order,\u201d Zuru said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Patrick Idowu The Labour Party (LP), in the Federal Capital Territory has urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), to comply with a court order by uploading its candidates for the February 26, 2026, area council elections.
