{"id":81186,"date":"2026-01-06T07:03:36","date_gmt":"2026-01-06T07:03:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/?p=81186"},"modified":"2026-01-06T07:03:36","modified_gmt":"2026-01-06T07:03:36","slug":"nlc-demands-end-to-alleged-arrest-of-osun-lg-workers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/2026\/01\/06\/nlc-demands-end-to-alleged-arrest-of-osun-lg-workers\/","title":{"rendered":"NLC Demands End to Alleged Arrest of Osun LG Workers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>By Huldah Shado<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, in Osun State has demanded an immediate end to the alleged arrest and harassment of local government workers across the state.<\/p>\n<p>The Osun NLC Chairman, Christopher Arapasopo, raised the alarm on Monday in Osogbo during the 2026 annual prayer organised by the state government at the Government Secretariat, Abere, Egbedore Local Government Area.<\/p>\n<p>Arapasopo\u2019s reaction followed reports that two to three local government workers were arrested at different council secretariats shortly after workers, who had been on strike for about 11 months, resumed duty on Monday.<\/p>\n<p>While the Osun State Police Command neither confirmed nor denied the arrests, sources within the All Progressives Congress, APC, claimed some workers were apprehended while allegedly attempting to remove official documents from council offices.<\/p>\n<p>The sources said the arrests occurred at the Boluwaduro Local Government Secretariat in Otan Ayegbaju and the Egbedore Local Government Secretariat in Awo.<\/p>\n<p>Photos and videos of some arrested workers and documents allegedly recovered from them circulated on social media, with some clips showing individuals forced to kneel during the arrests.<\/p>\n<p>Reacting, Arapasopo described the alleged arrests as unacceptable, warning that organised labour would resist any attempt to intimidate its members. He accused the APC of trying to destabilise the state and called on the police to release the affected workers.<\/p>\n<p>When contacted, the Osun State Police Command spokesperson, Abiodun Ojelabi, said he was yet to receive any official report on the alleged arrests, adding that the police would not tolerate anyone attempting to cause trouble at council secretariats.<\/p>\n<p>As of Monday evening, the police had not issued any formal statement on the matter.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Huldah Shado The Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, in Osun State has demanded an immediate end to the alleged arrest and harassment of local government workers across the state.
