{"id":81126,"date":"2026-01-03T08:00:11","date_gmt":"2026-01-03T08:00:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/?p=81126"},"modified":"2026-01-03T08:00:11","modified_gmt":"2026-01-03T08:00:11","slug":"abductors-of-kwara-monarch-son-demand-%e2%82%a6450m-ransom","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/2026\/01\/03\/abductors-of-kwara-monarch-son-demand-%e2%82%a6450m-ransom\/","title":{"rendered":"Abductors of Kwara Monarch, Son Demand \u20a6450m Ransom"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>By Onyeanya Ebere Immaculata<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Gunmen who abducted a traditional ruler in Kwara State, Oba Simeon Olaonipekun, the Oniwo of Aafin, his son and other residents have demanded a total ransom of \u20a6450 million for their release.<br \/>\nThe kidnappers are demanding \u20a6150 million for the monarch and his son, Olaolu, a serving National Youth Service Corps member, and \u20a6300 million for eight other residents abducted from Adanla-Irese, a suburb of Igbaja in Ifelodun Local Government Area.<br \/>\nThe Coordinator of the Kwara South Joint Community Security Watch Network, Elder Olaitan Oyin-Zubair, confirmed the demands on Friday, saying negotiations were ongoing. He disclosed that the abductors initially demanded \u20a6300 million for the Adanla victims before asking \u20a6150 million for the monarch and his son.<br \/>\nOba Olaonipekun was abducted on Wednesday night, December 31, 2025, when armed men reportedly invaded his palace in Aafin community around 8pm. During the attack, the monarch\u2019s wife, Felicia, was shot in the arm and taken to hospital, while the monarch and his son were whisked away after the assailants overwhelmed local vigilantes.<br \/>\nIn a related incident, eight residents were abducted during a raid on Adanla community on December 26, while abductors holding two other victims in nearby Owa-Onire are reportedly demanding \u20a610 million.<br \/>\nAs of press time, the Kwara State Police Command had yet to comment.
