{"id":81123,"date":"2026-01-03T07:59:15","date_gmt":"2026-01-03T07:59:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/?p=81123"},"modified":"2026-01-03T07:59:15","modified_gmt":"2026-01-03T07:59:15","slug":"canada-deports-366-nigerians-as-974-face-removal","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/2026\/01\/03\/canada-deports-366-nigerians-as-974-face-removal\/","title":{"rendered":"Canada Deports 366 Nigerians as 974 Face Removal"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>By Onyeanya Ebere Immaculata<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Canada deported 366 Nigerians between January and October 2025, while 974 others are currently awaiting removal, according to data from the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA).<br \/>\nFigures updated on November 25, 2025, show that Nigeria ranked ninth among the top 10 nationalities deported during the period and fifth among countries with the highest number of cases listed as \u201cremoval in progress.\u201d<br \/>\nThe deportations form part of an intensified immigration crackdown that has seen Canada remove nearly 400 foreign nationals weekly\u2014the fastest pace in over a decade. In the 2024\u20132025 fiscal year alone, 18,048 people were deported at an estimated cost of $78 million.<br \/>\nUnder Canada\u2019s Immigration and Refugee Protection Act, removals apply to foreign nationals with enforceable removal orders, largely failed refugee claimants, who account for about 83 per cent of cases. Criminality represents roughly four per cent.<br \/>\nNigeria was the only African country in the top 10 deportation list for 2025, which was led by Mexico, India and Haiti. It also ranked among the top countries with pending removals.<br \/>\nThe Canadian government says the drive is aimed at tightening immigration targets and easing housing, labour and border pressures.
