{"id":81032,"date":"2025-12-31T22:19:02","date_gmt":"2025-12-31T22:19:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/?p=81032"},"modified":"2025-12-31T22:19:02","modified_gmt":"2025-12-31T22:19:02","slug":"atiku-welcomes-peter-obi-to-adc","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/2025\/12\/31\/atiku-welcomes-peter-obi-to-adc\/","title":{"rendered":"Atiku Welcomes Peter Obi to ADC"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>By Patrick Idowu<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has welcomed the 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), following his official defection to the party.<\/p>\n<p>In a post on X on Tuesday, Atiku described Obi\u2019s move as a significant development in Nigeria\u2019s opposition politics, expressing optimism about building a strong and credible alternative to the ruling party.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cToday marks a significant moment in the history of political coalitions in our country with the official declaration of my brother and associate, @PeterObi, into the African Democratic Congress (ADC),\u201d Atiku wrote.<\/p>\n<p>He added that Obi\u2019s entry would strengthen cooperation among opposition forces and help foster a virile opposition capable of forming a government that delivers prosperity and peace to Nigerians.<\/p>\n<p>Atiku also called on other opposition leaders to join the coalition, urging patriots across the country to align with the ADC-led movement.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier on Tuesday, Obi announced his defection to the ADC in Enugu, describing the move as part of a broader plan to rescue and transform Nigeria ahead of the 2027 general election.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are ending this year with hope that in 2026 we will begin a rescue journey,\u201d Obi said.<\/p>\n<p>He also pledged that the opposition would resist electoral malpractice through lawful means and called for unity among opposition leaders under a common platform.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Patrick Idowu Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has welcomed the 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), following his official defection to the party.
