{"id":80872,"date":"2025-12-27T09:58:12","date_gmt":"2025-12-27T09:58:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/?p=80872"},"modified":"2025-12-27T09:58:12","modified_gmt":"2025-12-27T09:58:12","slug":"fg-confirms-debris-from-us-air-strikes-fell-in-kwara","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/2025\/12\/27\/fg-confirms-debris-from-us-air-strikes-fell-in-kwara\/","title":{"rendered":"FG Confirms Debris From US Air Strikes Fell in Kwara"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>By Patrick Idowu\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The federal government says debris of precision-guided munitions fired in the attack against terrorists fell in Jabo, Sokoto state, and Offa, Kwara state.<\/p>\n<p>The United States had targeted camps of the Islamic State (ISIS) terrorists in the Christmas Day bombardment.<\/p>\n<p>In a statement on Friday, Mohammed Idris, minister of information and national orientation, said the precision strike targeted two major enclaves in the Bauni forest axis of Tangaza LGA, Sokoto state.<\/p>\n<p>Idris said intelligence confirmed that the locations were being used by foreign ISIS elements infiltrating Nigeria from the Sahel region, in coordination with local affiliates.<\/p>\n<p>The information minister said the strike was executed in the early hours of Friday following the \u201cexplicit approval\u201d of President Bola Tinubu.<\/p>\n<p>Idris said there were no civilian casualties in any of the locations<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe strikes were launched from maritime platforms domiciled in the Gulf of Guinea, after extensive intelligence gathering, operational planning, and reconnaissance,\u201d the minister said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA total of 16 GPS-guided precision munitions were deployed using MQ-9 Reaper unmanned aerial platforms, successfully neutralising the targeted ISIS elements attempting to penetrate Nigeria from the Sahel corridor.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDuring the course of the operation, debris from expended munitions fell in Jabo, Tambuwal Local Government Area of Sokoto State, and in Offa, Kwara State, near the premises of a hotel.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo civilian casualties were recorded in either location, and relevant authorities promptly secured the affected areas.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Federal Government of Nigeria reiterates its unwavering resolve to confront, degrade, and eliminate terrorist threats, particularly those posed by transnational extremist networks seeking to undermine Nigeria\u2019s sovereignty and security.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNigeria remains fully aligned with its strategic partners and Friends of Nigeria in executing coordinated actions aimed at ensuring lasting peace, border security, and regional stability.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Communities in Sokoto and Kwara had reported explosions at the same time the US launched a fusillade of air strikes on ISIS terrorists in Sokoto.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Patrick Idowu\u00a0 The federal government says debris of precision-guided munitions fired in the attack against terrorists fell in Jabo, Sokoto state, and Offa, Kwara state.
