{"id":80675,"date":"2025-12-21T06:27:54","date_gmt":"2025-12-21T06:27:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/?p=80675"},"modified":"2025-12-21T06:27:54","modified_gmt":"2025-12-21T06:27:54","slug":"troops-intercept-ammunition-arrest-suspect-at-plateau-checkpoint","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/2025\/12\/21\/troops-intercept-ammunition-arrest-suspect-at-plateau-checkpoint\/","title":{"rendered":"Troops Intercept Ammunition, Arrest Suspect at Plateau Checkpoint"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>By Onyeanya Immaculata<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Troops of the 3 Division\/Joint Task Force Operation Enduring Peace (JTF OPEP), have arrested a suspect and recovered a large cache of ammunition during an intelligence-led operation at a checkpoint in Plateau State.<\/p>\n<p>The arrest was made on Friday at Mairana in Mangu Local Government Area, where troops intercepted an individual in possession of two boxes containing 1,400 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition.<\/p>\n<p>The joint task force spokesperson, Major Samson Zhakom, confirmed the development in a statement issued in Jos on Saturday, saying the operation was based on credible intelligence and conducted in collaboration with a tactical team from an intelligence agency.<\/p>\n<p>Zhakom said the suspect has been taken into custody, while investigations are ongoing to determine the source and intended destination of the ammunition.<\/p>\n<p>In a related operation, troops raided a suspected criminal hideout at Gwender Village in Bokkos Local Government Area on December 19, 2025, recovering one fabricated AK-47 rifle with a magazine, a fabricated pistol, and assorted ammunition.<\/p>\n<p>Although suspects fled before the arrival of troops, a thorough search of the hideout led to the recovery of the weapons.<\/p>\n<p>The military reassured residents of Plateau State of its commitment to safeguarding lives and property, especially during the festive season, and urged the public to continue providing credible information to support ongoing security operations.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Onyeanya Immaculata Troops of the 3 Division\/Joint Task Force Operation Enduring Peace (JTF OPEP), have arrested a suspect and recovered a large cache of ammunition during an intelligence-led operation at a checkpoint in Plateau State.
