{"id":80671,"date":"2025-12-21T06:25:53","date_gmt":"2025-12-21T06:25:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/?p=80671"},"modified":"2025-12-21T06:25:53","modified_gmt":"2025-12-21T06:25:53","slug":"yuletide-frsc-steps-up-patrols-to-curb-road-crashes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/2025\/12\/21\/yuletide-frsc-steps-up-patrols-to-curb-road-crashes\/","title":{"rendered":"Yuletide: FRSC Steps Up Patrols to Curb Road Crashes"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>By Onyeanya Immaculata<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), has launched a nationwide operation to reduce road crashes and enforce strict compliance with traffic laws during the end-of-year travel season.<\/p>\n<p>The exercise, tagged 2025 Operation Zero Tolerance, began on December 15, 2025, and will run until January 15, 2026, following a directive by the Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, the FRSC said in a statement on Saturday.<\/p>\n<p>The operation involves the full deployment of personnel and operational assets, with commanding officers ordered to ensure maximum enforcement, effective traffic control, and rapid emergency response on major highways and critical corridors.<\/p>\n<p>According to the corps, the intelligence-driven exercise features round-the-clock patrols, prompt rescue services, and strict enforcement to curb reckless driving and prevent avoidable crashes.<\/p>\n<p>Mohammed warned that negligence, compromise, or dereliction of duty by officers would attract severe sanctions.<\/p>\n<p>The FRSC said zero tolerance would be applied to traffic violations linked to fatal crashes, including mixed loading, distracted driving, speeding, drunk driving, dangerous overtaking, and overloading.<\/p>\n<p>Drivers using mobile phones while driving and vehicles conveying passengers alongside goods or animals will face decisive penalties.<\/p>\n<p>Construction firms were also urged to clear avoidable bottlenecks and open up carriageways on major highways to ease traffic flow during the festive period.<\/p>\n<p>Beyond enforcement, the operation includes intensified public awareness campaigns at motor parks, markets, religious centres, and other public spaces to promote safe driving habits.<\/p>\n<p>The corps called for cooperation from road users and sister security agencies, assuring Nigerians of safer roads throughout the Yuletide season.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Onyeanya Immaculata The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), has launched a nationwide operation to reduce road crashes and enforce strict compliance with traffic laws during the end-of-year travel season.
