Abdussamad Dasuki (PDP, Sokoto) in the House of Representatives, which highlighted discrepancies between the harmonised tax bills approved by lawmakers and the versions later released to the public.<\/p>\n<p>The party claimed that accountability provisions were removed while new clauses allegedly granting coercive enforcement powers to the Executive were inserted, including measures that could permit arrests and property seizure for tax non-compliance without court orders.<\/p>\n<p>According to the ADC, such actions go beyond policy disagreements and amount to a threat to democratic governance.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAltering legislation after it has been passed by elected representatives is a direct assault on constitutional order,\u201d the statement said.<\/p>\n<p>The party demanded an immediate halt to the implementation of the 2025 tax laws, calling on the National Assembly to review the alleged changes and investigate those responsible.<\/p>\n<p>It said suspending the laws pending legislative scrutiny is necessary to protect constitutional processes and preserve democratic accountability.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Onyeanya Immaculata The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has called for the immediate suspension of Nigeria\u2019s newly introduced tax laws, alleging that key provisions were altered after passage by the National Assembly and assent by President Bola Tinubu.
