Former Super Eagles captain, Mikel Obi, has criticised the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), over what he described as poor preparation for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), in Morocco.<\/p>\n
Speaking on his ObiOne podcast, Mikel expressed disappointment with reports that the national team coach was owed salaries, describing the situation as embarrassing so close to the tournament.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m not impressed at all with the preparation. After what happened in the World Cup qualifiers, you would expect things to be better,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Mikel questioned how such issues could persist at a crucial stage, warning that unresolved administrative problems could negatively affect the team.<\/p>\n
\u201cHow do you owe a coach money at this stage? It\u2019s shameful. This is not how serious football nations operate. When these things are in the public space, it affects the coach, the players and the fans,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n
Reports had claimed Super Eagles coach, Eric Chelle, was owed three months\u2019 salary and bonuses.<\/p>\n
However, Chairman of the National Sports Commission (NSC), Shehu Dikko, clarified that the commission had been paying Chelle\u2019s salary on behalf of the NFF as part of its support.<\/p>\n
