{"id":80465,"date":"2025-12-17T15:59:37","date_gmt":"2025-12-17T15:59:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/?p=80465"},"modified":"2025-12-17T15:59:37","modified_gmt":"2025-12-17T15:59:37","slug":"renewed-hope-initiative-supports-250-elderly-in-benue-disburses-%e2%82%a6200000-each","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/2025\/12\/17\/renewed-hope-initiative-supports-250-elderly-in-benue-disburses-%e2%82%a6200000-each\/","title":{"rendered":"Renewed Hope Initiative Supports 250 Elderly in Benue, Disburses \u20a6200,000 Each"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>By Bridget Tikyaa<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI), has provided financial and medical support to 250 vulnerable elderly persons in Benue State under its Elderly Support Scheme, aimed at promoting dignity, comfort and well-being among senior citizens.<\/p>\n<p>The intervention, themed \u201cFinding Joy in Old Age,\u201d held on Tuesday, December 16, 2025, at the Old Banquet Hall, Government House, Makurdi, formed part of the third edition of the scheme being implemented nationwide.<\/p>\n<p>Similar support was extended to elderly citizens in all states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory.<\/p>\n<p>Each beneficiary aged 65 years and above received \u20a6200,000, while Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia, also donated a bag of rice to each beneficiary.<\/p>\n<p>A free medical outreach was conducted during the programme, offering basic health checks, consultations and medical support.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking at the event, Benue State Coordinator of the Renewed Hope Initiative, Hon. Scholastica Ben-Sor, said the scheme reflects the commitment of Nigeria\u2019s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, to honour senior citizens for their contributions to nation-building.<\/p>\n<p>She disclosed that since 2023, the initiative has reached 9,500 elderly Nigerians nationwide, with total disbursement amounting to \u20a61.9 billion.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs we approach the festive season, it is our moral duty to ensure our elderly live their twilight years in comfort, good health and dignity,\u201d Ben-Sor said, quoting a message from the First Lady.<\/p>\n<p>She called on society to treat the elderly with respect and compassion, describing Governor Alia as a leader of integrity whose administration continues to impact lives positively.<\/p>\n<p>Although the governor was absent, she said he directed the distribution of rice through the State Emergency Management Agency and facilitated the medical outreach.<\/p>\n<p>Goodwill messages were delivered by representatives of the Deputy Governor\u2019s wife, the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development, and the APC Women Leader in Benue, who commended the First Lady for sustaining the initiative and urged beneficiaries to use the funds judiciously.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Bridget Tikyaa The Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI), has provided financial and medical support to 250 vulnerable elderly persons in Benue State under its Elderly Support Scheme, aimed at promoting dignity, comfort and well-being among senior citizens.
