Fr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia, has received a wave of national and international recognitions in acknowledgement of what observers describe as two years of purposeful governance and measurable transformation in the state.<\/p>\n<p>The awards, largely unsolicited, are in recognition of policies and reforms driven by discipline, accountability and people-centred leadership, which have repositioned Benue across key sectors of development.<\/p>\n<p>Among the honours received by the governor are the African Eagle Award for Best Governor in Socio-Economic Development Initiative 2025, presented at the Accolade Africa Growth Summit and Awards in the United Kingdom; the 2025 ATCON Digital Excellence Award for pioneering digital transformation and broadband expansion in Benue State; and the Leadership Newspaper Governor of the Year Award for exceptional leadership and transformative achievements.<\/p>\n<p>Other recognitions include the Advocate of the Masses and Human Rights Award by the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), the Democracy Governor of the Year Award by Leadership Scorecard, the Umaru Musa Yar\u2019Adua International Leadership Award, and recognition as one of the 50 Most Valuable Personalities in Nigeria\u2019s Digital Economy.<\/p>\n<p>Governor Alia has also received commendations from the Presidential Enabling Business Environment Council (PEBEC), the Association of Telecommunication Companies of Nigeria (ATCON), Clean Nigeria, and an Honorary Doctorate Degree from the Ernest Bai Koroma University of Science and Technology, Sierra Leone.<\/p>\n<p>Perhaps the most symbolic recognition came from within the state, as the Tiv Area Traditional Council conferred on him the chieftaincy title \u201cAsortar U Tiv\u201d, meaning Reformer of the Tiv Nation, granting him membership of the inner Advisory Council of the Begha U Tiv.<\/p>\n<p>The recognitions are tied to tangible investments across sectors.<\/p>\n<p>In infrastructure, the administration has constructed and rehabilitated key roads, including 16 strategic roads in Makurdi, streetlight installations, a proposed 500km road network, 78 culverts, bridges, and the ongoing Makurdi flyover.<\/p>\n<p>In education, the government has paid WAEC, NECO and NABTEB fees for public school students, recruited 9,700 teachers, awarded scholarships to first-class graduates, equipped schools with ICT centres, and commenced ICT training for 10,000 youths.<\/p>\n<p>Healthcare reforms include the upgrading of the Benue State University Teaching Hospital, establishment of cancer and therapeutic centres, opening of the Muhammadu Buhari Mother and Child Hospital, employment of 500 health workers, and rehabilitation of 98 primary healthcare centres, with 15 per cent of the state budget allocated to health.<\/p>\n<p>The administration has also prioritised agriculture through subsidised fertilisers, tractors, and mechanised farming support, strengthened security architecture, expanded digital governance, revitalised Benue Links with 100 new buses, and launched strategic institutions to drive innovation and investment.<\/p>\n<p>Central to the administration\u2019s agenda is the 10-Year Benue State Development Plan (2025-2034), a roadmap focused on security, agriculture, infrastructure, human capital, ICT and good governance, widely seen as the anchor of the state\u2019s long-term growth vision.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-80350\" src=\"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/IMG-20251216-WA0024-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/IMG-20251216-WA0024-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/IMG-20251216-WA0024-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/IMG-20251216-WA0024-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/IMG-20251216-WA0024-1536x1025.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/IMG-20251216-WA0024-2048x1366.jpg 2048w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Bridget Tikyaa Benue State Governor, Rev.
