{"id":80223,"date":"2025-12-14T15:35:00","date_gmt":"2025-12-14T15:35:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/?p=80223"},"modified":"2025-12-14T15:35:00","modified_gmt":"2025-12-14T15:35:00","slug":"11-killed-in-shooting-targeting-jewish-community-at-bondi-beach-police","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/2025\/12\/14\/11-killed-in-shooting-targeting-jewish-community-at-bondi-beach-police\/","title":{"rendered":"11 Killed in Shooting Targeting Jewish Community at Bondi Beach -Police"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>By Patrick Idowu<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>At least 11 people were killed and several others injured on Sunday during a shooting at a Hanukkah celebration near Bondi Beach in Sydney, Australia.<\/p>\n<p>New South Wales Police said two suspects were arrested following the attack, which occurred around 7 p.m. local time.<\/p>\n<p>The shooting targeted a crowd gathered for the Jewish festival at the popular beachfront area.<\/p>\n<p>Eyewitness videos posted online showed two men standing on a footbridge linking Campbell Parade to the Bondi Pavilion, firing into the crowd as people screamed and fled for safety.<\/p>\n<p>One bystander was seen confronting and disarming one of the gunmen.<\/p>\n<p>Emergency services rushed to the scene, with victims treated on the grass at North Bondi and others taken away in ambulances.<\/p>\n<p>Police confirmed the arrests but said the operation was ongoing. \u201cTwo people are in custody at Bondi Beach; however, the police operation is continuing.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We urge the public to avoid the area and follow all police directions,\u201d NSW Police said in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>Authorities advised residents to remain sheltered until the area was declared safe.<\/p>\n<p>Hanukkah, also known as the Festival of Lights, commemorates the rededication of the Second Temple in Jerusalem in the 2nd century BCE.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Patrick Idowu At least 11 people were killed and several others injured on Sunday during a shooting at a Hanukkah celebration near Bondi Beach in Sydney, Australia.
