{"id":80138,"date":"2025-12-12T11:30:17","date_gmt":"2025-12-12T11:30:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/?p=80138"},"modified":"2025-12-12T11:30:17","modified_gmt":"2025-12-12T11:30:17","slug":"water-scarcity-hits-gwarinpa-as-broken-pipeline-worsens-crisis","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/2025\/12\/12\/water-scarcity-hits-gwarinpa-as-broken-pipeline-worsens-crisis\/","title":{"rendered":"Water Scarcity Hits Gwarinpa as Broken Pipeline Worsens Crisis"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>By Patrick Idowu<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A significant section of the Gwarinpa District in Abuja has been hit by acute water scarcity following the damage of a major pipeline supplying the area.<\/p>\n<p>During a visit to the site, located beneath an ongoing interchange flyover linking Gwarinpa to Gishiri and Maitama, Abuja City Journal observed that no engineers were on ground to address the vandalised pipe.<\/p>\n<p>Residents say the situation has forced many households to rely heavily on water vendors.<\/p>\n<p>A 10-jerrycan supply now costs as high as \u20a68,000, according to resident Ayodele Joseph, who also raised concerns over the hygiene of the water being sold.<\/p>\n<p>He urged authorities to expedite repairs and restore water to the community.<\/p>\n<p>The District Head of Gwarinpa, Malam Umar Bayero, said the worst-hit are natives living in Gwarinpa village.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have been experiencing water shortages for about five months, and this development has worsened it,\u201d he said. \u201cSome residents used to trek to 1st Avenue to fetch water from the water board, but even that area is now affected. The FCT Water Board should explain the situation and the efforts made so far.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>An official of the FCT Water Board, who preferred anonymity, said the ongoing road project had earlier damaged a pipeline in the area, which was yet to be repaired before the latest vandalism occurred.<\/p>\n<p>He suggested realigning the pipe away from beneath the bridge, questioning why it was laid in such a location.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Patrick Idowu A significant section of the Gwarinpa District in Abuja has been hit by acute water scarcity following the damage of a major pipeline supplying the area.
