{"id":80094,"date":"2025-12-11T13:14:24","date_gmt":"2025-12-11T13:14:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/?p=80094"},"modified":"2025-12-11T13:14:24","modified_gmt":"2025-12-11T13:14:24","slug":"osimhen-wins-gq-sportsman-of-the-year-in-turkey","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/2025\/12\/11\/osimhen-wins-gq-sportsman-of-the-year-in-turkey\/","title":{"rendered":"Osimhen Wins GQ Sportsman of the Year in Turkey"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>By Samuel Adeola<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Super Eagles forward and Galatasaray striker Victor Osimhen has been named GQ Turkey\u2019s Sportsman of the Year.<\/p>\n<p>The 26-year-old received the award on Wednesday at a ceremony in Istanbul, where GQ honoured top achievers across sports, entertainment and culture.<\/p>\n<p>Osimhen has been a standout performer since joining Galatasaray.<\/p>\n<p>He scored 37 goals and provided seven assists in 41 matches last season, helping the club win both the Super Lig and Turkish Cup and prompting Galatasaray to complete a \u20ac75 million permanent transfer from Napoli, a Turkish record.<\/p>\n<p>Despite injuries this season, he has netted 11 goals in 14 appearances across all competitions.<\/p>\n<p>Osimhen also remains central to the Super Eagles\u2019 plans, scoring six goals in five World Cup qualifiers and two more in the AFCON play-off before injury sidelined him.<\/p>\n<p>He is expected to lead Nigeria\u2019s attack at the 2025 AFCON in Morocco.<\/p>\n<p>In his acceptance speech, Osimhen thanked GQ, his family and the Galatasaray community, saying he would \u201ccontinue to do my best for my family, for Galatasaray, for the fans all over the world.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Other honourees included actor Aras Ayd\u0131n as International Achiever of the Year, actress Sinem \u00dcnsal as Woman of the Year, and singer Edis as Music Person of the Year.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Samuel Adeola Super Eagles forward and Galatasaray striker Victor Osimhen has been named GQ Turkey\u2019s Sportsman of the Year.
