{"id":79848,"date":"2025-12-09T06:24:43","date_gmt":"2025-12-09T06:24:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/?p=79848"},"modified":"2025-12-09T06:24:43","modified_gmt":"2025-12-09T06:24:43","slug":"fg-pushes-for-faster-terrorism-trials","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/2025\/12\/09\/fg-pushes-for-faster-terrorism-trials\/","title":{"rendered":"FG Pushes for Faster Terrorism Trials"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>By Adenike Lawal<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Federal Government has called for quicker prosecution of terrorism and other violent crimes, with the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF), Lateef Fagbemi (SAN), urging the judiciary to reinforce national security efforts through firm and timely adjudication.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking at the Court of Appeal\u2019s 2025\/2026 Legal Year opening in Abuja, Fagbemi said Nigeria\u2019s escalating threats of terrorism, kidnapping and banditry require a justice system that swiftly holds offenders accountable.<\/p>\n<p>He noted that while security agencies are intensifying operations, the courts must ensure suspects are prosecuted without delay.<\/p>\n<p>He added that the Tinubu administration is working to appoint more Federal High Court judges to speed up terrorism-related trials and reduce the strain on the judiciary.<\/p>\n<p>Also at the event, FCT Minister Nyesom Wike announced new welfare measures for judicial officers, including fresh budgetary provisions for judges\u2019 accommodation.<\/p>\n<p>He said the FCTA has issued the Certificate of Occupancy for the Supreme Court\u2019s land and begun perimeter fencing to secure the complex.<\/p>\n<p>Wike highlighted ongoing judicial infrastructure projects such as residences for heads of courts, a Magistrates\u2019 Court complex in Jabi, staff quarters for the Nigerian Law School and new buildings for appellate and federal judges in Abuja.<\/p>\n<p>Both officials reaffirmed the government\u2019s commitment to strengthening justice delivery in the new legal year.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Adenike Lawal The Federal Government has called for quicker prosecution of terrorism and other violent crimes, with the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF), Lateef Fagbemi (SAN), urging the judiciary to reinforce national security efforts through firm and timely adjudication.
