The Labour Party faction loyal to Julius Abure on Tuesday proceeded with its nationwide ward congresses across all states except Abia, describing the exercise as peaceful and well attended despite a subsisting court order secured by the Alex Otti-led faction.<\/p>\n
National Publicity Secretary of the Abure-led National Working Committee, Obiora Ifoh, said in a statement that reports from supervision teams indicated a smooth process nationwide.<\/p>\n
He noted that the congresses were part of efforts to reposition the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.<\/p>\n
The ward congresses held on Tuesday, while the Local Government Congress is scheduled for Thursday. State congresses will follow on Saturday, December 6.<\/p>\n
Abia was exempted following an Abia State High Court order halting the exercise. Ifoh said the party chose to comply with the order, though it believes the court lacks jurisdiction.<\/p>\n
He added that steps had been taken to vacate the injunction before conducting the Abia congress.<\/p>\n
Ifoh urged Nigerians to embrace the Labour Party ahead of 2027 and warned internal actors allegedly attempting to destabilize the party.<\/p>\n
He accused detractors of spreading false claims that the congresses had been cancelled nationwide, describing it as a criminal act under Section 59 of the Criminal Code.<\/p>\n
