{"id":79397,"date":"2025-11-27T16:14:46","date_gmt":"2025-11-27T16:14:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/?p=79397"},"modified":"2025-11-27T16:14:46","modified_gmt":"2025-11-27T16:14:46","slug":"tinubu-declares-nationwide-security-emergency","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/2025\/11\/27\/tinubu-declares-nationwide-security-emergency\/","title":{"rendered":"Tinubu Declares Nationwide Security Emergency"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>By Samson Adeyanju<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Wednesday declared a nationwide security emergency, unveiling sweeping measures aimed at strengthening Nigeria\u2019s defence and internal security architecture amid rising attacks across several states.<\/p>\n<p>In a State House statement, the President authorised the immediate recruitment of additional personnel into the police and the army, directing the Nigeria Police Force to enlist 20,000 more officers, raising its ongoing recruitment figure to 50,000.<\/p>\n<p>Tinubu also approved the use of NYSC camps as temporary police training depots, and ordered officers withdrawn from VIP protection duties to undergo special reorientation for deployment to high-risk areas.<\/p>\n<p>The Department of State Services (DSS), was similarly directed to deploy all trained forest guards to flush out terrorists and bandits hiding in forests, while recruiting more personnel to strengthen surveillance and security operations nationwide.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is a national emergency, and we are responding by deploying more boots on the ground,\u201d the President said. \u201cThere will be no more hiding places for agents of evil.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Tinubu commended security agencies for the rescue of abducted schoolgirls in Kebbi and worshippers in Kwara State, assuring that efforts would continue until remaining hostages, including students of a Catholic school in Niger State are safely returned.<\/p>\n<p>He also signaled support for states seeking to establish state police, urging the National Assembly to begin reviewing relevant laws.<\/p>\n<p>The President cautioned states against operating boarding schools in remote areas without adequate security, and encouraged religious institutions to seek police protection during gatherings, particularly in vulnerable regions.<\/p>\n<p>On the herder-farmer crisis, Tinubu urged herders to embrace ranching and take advantage of the newly created Livestock Ministry, warning against open grazing and illegal arms possession.<\/p>\n<p>He expressed condolences to families affected by recent attacks in Kebbi, Borno, Zamfara, Niger, Yobe, and Kwara states, and paid tribute to fallen soldiers, including Brig.-Gen. Musa Uba.<\/p>\n<p>Reassuring citizens, Tinubu urged Nigerians to remain calm and vigilant.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDo not give in to fear or despair. Report suspicious activities.
