Journalists from the 36 states and the FCT on Tuesday converged on Jalingo, Taraba State, for a two-day National Media Summit organised by the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), themed \u201cBuilding Trust and Integrity in the Age of Misinformation.\u201d<\/p>\n
NUJ National President, Alhassan Yahya, said the summit would serve as a \u201cmarketplace of ideas,\u201d producing the Taraba Communiqu\u00e9 to guide efforts toward rebuilding public trust.<\/p>\n
He urged journalists to return to their newsrooms with renewed commitment to ethical reporting.<\/p>\n
He also appealed to the Federal Government to support road construction in Taraba, noting that delegates travelled through \u201cdeplorable roads\u201d to attend.<\/p>\n
Taraba\u2019s Commissioner for Information, Zainab Usman Jalingo, reaffirmed the government\u2019s commitment to transparency, describing the media as key partners in governance.<\/p>\n
State NUJ Chairman, Mathew Eliud Jen, said the summit marks a turning point in strengthening media-government relations.<\/p>\n
He thanked Governor Agbu Kefas for supporting journalism and providing a conducive environment for the event.<\/p>\n
Delivering the keynote address, Prof. Umar Pate of Federal University, Kashere, stressed that journalists must not face harassment while carrying out their duties.<\/p>\n
He highlighted safety standards and urged reporters to embrace digital tools or risk irrelevance.<\/p>\n
Governor Kefas described journalists as \u201cpartners in progress\u201d and urged continuous collaboration to combat misinformation and strengthen national development.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
