{"id":78693,"date":"2025-11-14T06:51:20","date_gmt":"2025-11-14T06:51:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/?p=78693"},"modified":"2025-11-14T06:51:20","modified_gmt":"2025-11-14T06:51:20","slug":"group-petitions-reps-to-remove-nnpcl-evp-sophia-mbakwe","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/2025\/11\/14\/group-petitions-reps-to-remove-nnpcl-evp-sophia-mbakwe\/","title":{"rendered":"Group Petitions Reps to Remove NNPCL EVP Sophia Mbakwe"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>By Huldah Shado<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The House of Representatives on Thursday received a petition from Ezi Umuada Igbo, an Igbo socio-cultural group, seeking the removal of Mrs. Sophia Mbakwe as Executive Vice President (Business Services), of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL).<\/p>\n<p>The petition, presented by Ikenga Ugochinyere, Chairman of the House Committee on Petroleum Resources (Downstream), alleges that Mbakwe occupies a position reserved for the South-East despite not being an indigene of the region.<\/p>\n<p>Addressed to Speaker Tajudeen Abbas, the group urged an investigation into her appointment, citing Section 14(3) of the Constitution, which mandates equitable regional representation in federal appointments.<\/p>\n<p>While thanking President Bola Tinubu for appointing an Igbo woman, the group argued that fairness and federal character require that the position be filled by someone from the South-East.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe South-East has an abundance of competent and qualified women who can represent the region in the NNPCL management team,\u201d the petition stated.<\/p>\n<p>The House referred the petition to the Committee on Public Petitions for further action.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Huldah Shado The House of Representatives on Thursday received a petition from Ezi Umuada Igbo, an Igbo socio-cultural group, seeking the removal of Mrs. Sophia Mbakwe as Executive Vice President (Business Services), of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL).
