{"id":78637,"date":"2025-11-13T09:03:54","date_gmt":"2025-11-13T09:03:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/?p=78637"},"modified":"2025-11-13T09:03:54","modified_gmt":"2025-11-13T09:03:54","slug":"fct-council-poll-court-dismisses-suit-against-apc-candidate","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/2025\/11\/13\/fct-council-poll-court-dismisses-suit-against-apc-candidate\/","title":{"rendered":"FCT Council Poll: Court Dismisses Suit Against APC Candidate"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>By Patrick Idowu<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A Federal High Court in Abuja has dismissed a lawsuit seeking to remove Haruna Audi as the All Progressives Congress (APC), candidate for the 2026 Bwari Area Council chairmanship election.<\/p>\n<p>The suit, filed by Joshua Ishaku, was ruled statute-barred for being filed outside the 14-day window mandated by Section 285(9) of the 1999 Constitution.<\/p>\n<p>Justice Emeka Nwite noted that the cause of action arose on June 30, when the APC\u2019s National Working Committee forwarded Audi\u2019s name to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).<\/p>\n<p>Ishaku had claimed the submission violated the APC Constitution and the Electoral Act.<\/p>\n<p>The court, however, upheld Audi\u2019s preliminary objection, citing Ishaku\u2019s failure to exhaust internal party mechanisms and his absence from the appeal committee hearing.<\/p>\n<p>The judgment ensures Audi remains APC\u2019s candidate for the upcoming council election.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Patrick Idowu A Federal High Court in Abuja has dismissed a lawsuit seeking to remove Haruna Audi as the All Progressives Congress (APC), candidate for the 2026 Bwari Area Council chairmanship election.
