{"id":78592,"date":"2025-11-12T13:08:41","date_gmt":"2025-11-12T13:08:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/?p=78592"},"modified":"2025-11-12T13:08:41","modified_gmt":"2025-11-12T13:08:41","slug":"court-jails-two-national-assembly-staff-for-%e2%82%a64-8m-job-scam","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/2025\/11\/12\/court-jails-two-national-assembly-staff-for-%e2%82%a64-8m-job-scam\/","title":{"rendered":"Court Jails Two National Assembly Staff for \u20a64.8m Job Scam"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>By Samuel Adeola<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>An Abuja High Court has convicted two National Assembly staff, Mustapha Mohammed and Tijjani Adam Goni, for defrauding job seekers of \u20a64.8 million under the guise of securing employment at the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS).<\/p>\n<p>The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), said the conviction followed a petition by victims, Saifudeen Yakub and Aminu Abubakar, who alleged that the duo, alongside an accomplice still at large, collected the money for fake job placements.<\/p>\n<p>Justice B.M. Bassi of the FCT High Court, Asokoro, found them guilty after investigations confirmed they received the funds through various bank accounts for false medical screening and employment processing.<\/p>\n<p>Under a plea bargain in line with Section 270 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act (ACJA), 2015, the convicts pleaded guilty to an amended one-count charge of making false statements.
