{"id":78232,"date":"2025-11-06T09:36:30","date_gmt":"2025-11-06T09:36:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/?p=78232"},"modified":"2025-11-06T09:36:30","modified_gmt":"2025-11-06T09:36:30","slug":"court-bars-lagos-police-from-arresting-sowore-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/2025\/11\/06\/court-bars-lagos-police-from-arresting-sowore-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Court Bars Lagos Police from Arresting Sowore"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>By Huldah Shado<\/p>\n<p>The Federal High Court in Lagos has restrained the Lagos State Police Command and its Commissioner from arresting, harassing, or intimidating Omoyele Sowore, publisher of Sahara Reporters and human rights activist.<\/p>\n<p>Justice Musa Kakaki granted the interim order on Wednesday following a suit by Sowore seeking protection of his fundamental rights.<\/p>\n<p>The court ruled that the police must not arrest, detain, or declare him wanted pending the hearing of the substantive case.<\/p>\n<p>Sowore told the court he was declared wanted without any formal invitation or warrant, arguing that the police action violated his rights to liberty and freedom of movement.<\/p>\n<p>He alleged the move was aimed at silencing his activism.<\/p>\n<p>The Lagos Police Commissioner, Moshood Jimoh, had on Monday declared Sowore wanted for allegedly inciting unrest during a visit to Oworonshoki over recent demolitions.<\/p>\n<p>Reacting, Sowore hailed the ruling as a victory for the rule of law and judicial independence.<\/p>\n<p>The case was adjourned for further hearing.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Huldah Shado The Federal High Court in Lagos has restrained the Lagos State Police Command and its Commissioner from arresting, harassing, or intimidating Omoyele Sowore, publisher of Sahara Reporters and human rights activist.
