{"id":78166,"date":"2025-11-05T20:15:39","date_gmt":"2025-11-05T20:15:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/?p=78166"},"modified":"2025-11-05T20:15:39","modified_gmt":"2025-11-05T20:15:39","slug":"court-adjourns-sowores-defamation-case-to-december-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/2025\/11\/05\/court-adjourns-sowores-defamation-case-to-december-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Court Adjourns Sowore\u2019s Defamation Case to December 2"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>By Onyeanya Ebere Immaculata<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The Federal High Court in Abuja has declined a request by the Department of State Services (DSS), to issue a bench warrant against activist and publisher Omoyele Sowore, who was absent for arraignment on criminal defamation charges.<\/p>\n<p>Justice Mohammed Umar ruled that the court could not proceed after X Corporation (formerly Twitter), a co-defendant, disclosed it had not been served with the charge sheet.<\/p>\n<p>The judge adjourned the matter to December 2, 2025, directing that all defendants be properly served.<\/p>\n<p>The DSS, represented by Akinlolu Kehinde (SAN), accused Sowore of evading court despite being served, describing his absence as \u201can affront to the court.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Sowore faces five counts of criminal defamation alongside Meta (Facebook), Inc. and X Corporation over alleged false posts on social media said to defame the DSS and breach national security.<\/p>\n<p>Justice Umar ordered proper service of the charges and hearing notices before the next sitting.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Onyeanya Ebere Immaculata &nbsp; The Federal High Court in Abuja has declined a request by the Department of State Services (DSS), to issue a bench warrant against activist and publisher Omoyele Sowore, who was absent for arraignment on criminal defamation charges.
