{"id":78002,"date":"2025-11-04T09:32:20","date_gmt":"2025-11-04T09:32:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/?p=78002"},"modified":"2025-11-04T09:32:20","modified_gmt":"2025-11-04T09:32:20","slug":"tinubu-to-appoint-new-ambassadors-amid-diplomatic-strain-with-u-s","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/2025\/11\/04\/tinubu-to-appoint-new-ambassadors-amid-diplomatic-strain-with-u-s\/","title":{"rendered":"Tinubu to Appoint New Ambassadors Amid Diplomatic Strain with U.S."},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>By Onyeanya Ebere Immaculata<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>President Bola Tinubu is finalising the appointment of new ambassadors to Nigeria\u2019s foreign missions after months of delay and growing concern over the absence of envoys abroad.<\/p>\n<p>Presidency sources told Journalists that the President has ordered a final review of the list of nominees to replace those who have retired, died, or become ineligible since the Senate\u2019s earlier screening.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt will be concluded soon; they\u2019re just cleaning it up to ensure the list is up-to-date,\u201d a senior official said.<\/p>\n<p>Tinubu had recalled all ambassadors in September 2023 as part of a diplomatic overhaul, leaving most missions under charg\u00e9s d\u2019affaires with limited authority.<\/p>\n<p>Diplomats say the vacuum has weakened Nigeria\u2019s global representation.<\/p>\n<p>The renewed urgency follows rising diplomatic tension after former U.S. President Donald Trump accused Nigeria of persecuting Christians and threatened \u201cpossible action.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Foreign Affairs Minister Yusuf Tuggar is expected to brief Tinubu at the State House, Abuja, on finalising the appointments, which have also been delayed by funding challenges.<\/p>\n<p>The President, who earlier admitted the difficulty of balancing political and professional interests in the selection, is expected to unveil the final list soon.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Onyeanya Ebere Immaculata &nbsp; President Bola Tinubu is finalising the appointment of new ambassadors to Nigeria\u2019s foreign missions after months of delay and growing concern over the absence of envoys abroad.
