{"id":77392,"date":"2025-10-24T13:42:53","date_gmt":"2025-10-24T13:42:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/?p=77392"},"modified":"2025-10-24T13:42:53","modified_gmt":"2025-10-24T13:42:53","slug":"son-destroys-%e2%82%a625m-worth-of-expired-substandard-goods-in-kaduna","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/2025\/10\/24\/son-destroys-%e2%82%a625m-worth-of-expired-substandard-goods-in-kaduna\/","title":{"rendered":"SON Destroys \u20a625m Worth of Expired, Substandard Goods in Kaduna"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>By Sarah Sam Adda<\/p>\n<p>The Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON), on Friday destroyed expired and substandard goods worth about \u20a625 million in Kaduna to safeguard public health and promote quality assurance.<\/p>\n<p>The items included 230 bags of expired sugar, soft drinks, milk, tomato pastes, and insecticides found unfit for consumption after laboratory tests.<\/p>\n<p>Deputy Director, North-West Region, Mr. Adamu Ahmed, said the destruction was part of SON\u2019s mandate to rid markets of unsafe products and protect consumers.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are here to destroy substandard products that did not comply with required standards.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Their destruction ensures consumers do not unknowingly use items that could endanger their health,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Ahmed warned manufacturers and importers against compromising quality and commended compliant companies for adhering to national standards.<\/p>\n<p>Officials from the DSS, Police, NSCDC, NESREA, KEPA, and Kaduna State Government witnessed the exercise.<\/p>\n<p>NESREA State Coordinator, Mr. Hena Dangari, lauded SON\u2019s consistency and urged Nigerians to report suspicious products, while KEPA pledged continued collaboration to ensure environmental safety.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Sarah Sam Adda The Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON), on Friday destroyed expired and substandard goods worth about \u20a625 million in Kaduna to safeguard public health and promote quality assurance.
