The Federal Government has terminated the 43-kilometre Port Harcourt-Aba road contract awarded to the China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC), over alleged poor performance and disregard for directives.<\/p>\n
Minister of Works, David Umahi, announced the decision during an inspection on Sunday, lamenting that the road section leading to Aba was collapsing despite huge investments.<\/p>\n
Umahi accused CCECC of using faulty construction methods and ignoring repeated warnings on quality and safety standards.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe have warned CCECC more than 20 times,\u201d he said. \u201cTheir refusal to comply has led to the near-collapse of a road funded by taxpayers\u2019 money.\u201d<\/p>\n
He directed the ministry to engage credible local contractors to complete the project and ordered a 14-day notice for CCECC to correct defects or face nationwide sanctions.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe efforts of President Tinubu to transform infrastructure must not be sabotaged,\u201d Umahi warned, stressing that the decision to revoke the contract was final and in the public interest.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
