The Nigeria Police Force has cautioned groups planning protests for the release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu to steer clear of the Aso Rock Villa and its environs, citing a subsisting court order.<\/p>\n
Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, said in a statement on Sunday that the warning followed a Federal High Court order in Abuja restraining demonstrations around key government installations.<\/p>\n
According to Hundeyin, the court, in a ruling on Federal Republic of Nigeria v. Omoyele Sowore and 4 others on October 17, barred protests within and around the Aso Rock Villa, National Assembly Complex, Force Headquarters, Court of Appeal, Eagle Square, and Shehu Shagari Way.<\/p>\n
He advised intending protesters and counter-protest groups to avoid restricted areas and refrain from any conduct that could trigger confrontation or public disorder.<\/p>\n
Hundeyin said the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, had directed the FCT Commissioner of Police and relevant commands to ensure strict enforcement of the order, maintain security, and protect lives and property.<\/p>\n
He warned that anyone using protests to incite violence, carry weapons, or vandalize property would face arrest and prosecution under relevant criminal laws.<\/p>\n
The police urged organisers to channel grievances through lawful means and assured residents of adequate security to ensure peace and free movement in the capital.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
