{"id":76758,"date":"2025-10-16T10:36:47","date_gmt":"2025-10-16T10:36:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/?p=76758"},"modified":"2025-10-16T10:36:47","modified_gmt":"2025-10-16T10:36:47","slug":"bayelsa-lg-chairmen-quit-pdp-back-governor-diri","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/2025\/10\/16\/bayelsa-lg-chairmen-quit-pdp-back-governor-diri\/","title":{"rendered":"Bayelsa LG Chairmen Quit PDP, Back Governor Diri"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>By Onilede Titi Faith<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>All eight local government chairmen in Bayelsa State have resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and pledged allegiance to Governor Douye Diri after his exit from the party.<\/p>\n<p>The chairmen announced their resignation on Wednesday at the ALGON Secretariat in Yenagoa, affirming their solidarity with the governor.<\/p>\n<p>Governor Diri had earlier resigned from the PDP along with several House of Assembly members, citing \u201cobvious reasons\u201d without elaborating.<\/p>\n<p>His decision, announced during an expanded State Executive Council meeting, followed \u201cextensive consultations with leaders of the state,\u201d according to his Chief Press Secretary, Daniel Alabrah.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking for the council bosses, Kolokuma\/Opokuma LGA Chairman, Lelei Isaac, said the move was influenced by the PDP\u2019s prolonged internal crisis.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs chairmen, vice chairmen, councillors, and other appointees, we support our governor\u2019s decision and hereby resign from the PDP,\u201d Isaac declared.<\/p>\n<p>Chairmen from Nembe, Southern Ijaw, Yenagoa, Ekeremor, Ogbia, and Kolokuma\/Opokuma LGAs were present at the briefing, while those of Sagbama and Brass were absent.<\/p>\n<p>Diri\u2019s resignation marks a major political shift in Bayelsa, long regarded as a PDP stronghold, and has triggered speculation about his next political move.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Onilede Titi Faith &nbsp; All eight local government chairmen in Bayelsa State have resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and pledged allegiance to Governor Douye Diri after his exit from the party.
