{"id":76603,"date":"2025-10-13T18:33:41","date_gmt":"2025-10-13T18:33:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/?p=76603"},"modified":"2025-10-13T18:33:41","modified_gmt":"2025-10-13T18:33:41","slug":"tinubu-to-end-judges-rent-era-in-fct-wike","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/2025\/10\/13\/tinubu-to-end-judges-rent-era-in-fct-wike\/","title":{"rendered":"Tinubu to End Judges\u2019 Rent Era in FCT -Wike"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>By Adeola Samuel<\/p>\n<p>Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has pledged that before the end of President Bola Tinubu\u2019s first term, no judge of the FCT High Court will live in a rented apartment.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking on Monday at the flag-off of new residences for heads of courts in Abuja, Wike said the project would end the era of judges living in rented houses.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBefore the first tenure of Mr. President ends, no judge of the FCT High Court will be living in a rented quarter,\u201d he said, clarifying that the project is solely for FCT High Court judges.<\/p>\n<p>Wike noted that the initiative follows the earlier construction of 40 judges\u2019 quarters in Katampe and new magistrate courts in Jabi.<\/p>\n<p>He stressed that the scheme aligns with the FCDA\u2019s mandate to provide infrastructure, not interference with the judiciary.<\/p>\n<p>He added that heads of courts, including the President of the Court of Appeal and Chief Judges of the Federal and FCT High Courts, will retain the houses upon retirement.<\/p>\n<p>Attorney General of the Federation, Lateef Fagbemi (SAN), lauded the initiative, describing it as a boost to judicial independence and dignity.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Adeola Samuel Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has pledged that before the end of President Bola Tinubu\u2019s first term, no judge of the FCT High Court will live in a rented apartment.
