{"id":76518,"date":"2025-10-12T19:32:50","date_gmt":"2025-10-12T19:32:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/?p=76518"},"modified":"2025-10-12T19:32:50","modified_gmt":"2025-10-12T19:32:50","slug":"apc-chieftain-cautions-otti-against-using-nnamdi-kanus-name-for-political-gains","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/2025\/10\/12\/apc-chieftain-cautions-otti-against-using-nnamdi-kanus-name-for-political-gains\/","title":{"rendered":"APC Chieftain Cautions Otti Against Using Nnamdi Kanu\u2019s Name for Political Gains"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>By Omoniyi David<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abia State, Prince Paul Ikonne, has cautioned Governor Alex Otti to desist from using the name of the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, for political relevance, urging him instead to focus on governance and accountability to the people of Abia State.<\/p>\n<p>Ikonne gave the warning on Saturday in Abuja while addressing a large gathering of Ukwa la Ngwa youths who paid him a courtesy visit.<\/p>\n<p>According to him, the governor\u2019s recent public remarks concerning Nnamdi Kanu were \u201cnothing but a desperate attempt to gain attention.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Dr. Ujo Justice, Ikonne said it was \u201cunfortunate that rather than giving Abians a transparent account of how public funds are being utilised, Governor Otti has chosen to play politics with the emotions of the people by dragging the name of Nnamdi Kanu into his failing government narrative.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He accused the governor of using sensitive national issues to divert attention from what he described as Otti\u2019s \u201cgrowing record of underperformance,\u201d adding that several projects claimed by the administration had remained invisible.<\/p>\n<p>Ikonne questioned the sincerity of the \u20a654 billion \u201cSmart School\u201d project and the \u20a66 billion \u201cRecreational Center,\u201d both reportedly executed under the Otti administration, and challenged the governor to show their exact locations.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf truly these projects exist, why were they not commissioned during the governor\u2019s recent public show of some rehabilitated roads? Why does every report from Abia Government House end up as social media content with no substance on the ground?\u201d he queried.<\/p>\n<p>The APC stalwart further alleged that Abia State\u2019s quarterly performance report contained \u201cdisturbing figures,\u201d claiming that huge sums had been written off for non-existent projects, despite the government receiving over \u20a630 billion monthly in allocations and internally generated revenue.<\/p>\n<p>Describing Otti\u2019s administration as \u201ca government of repainting and rebranding of old structures while claiming new achievements,\u201d Ikonne said Abians were now wiser and would no longer be deceived by \u201cmere aesthetics or photo opportunities.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>On the matter of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, Ikonne faulted Otti\u2019s recent public interest, accusing him of hypocrisy.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor more than two years in office, Governor Otti never paid a visit, never made a concrete intervention, and never demonstrated any concern about Mazi Nnamdi Kanu\u2019s situation. Now that his government\u2019s credibility is collapsing, he suddenly remembers Kanu. That is hypocrisy at its peak,\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n<p>Ikonne emphasized that \u201cMazi Nnamdi Kanu will regain his freedom without Alex Otti\u2019s political grandstanding,\u201d and urged the governor to stop exploiting the issue for personal and political gain.<\/p>\n<p>He, however, commended Hon. Obi Aguocha and Hon.
