{"id":76382,"date":"2025-10-09T15:24:09","date_gmt":"2025-10-09T15:24:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/?p=76382"},"modified":"2025-10-09T15:24:09","modified_gmt":"2025-10-09T15:24:09","slug":"tinubu-presides-over-council-of-state-meeting-presents-inec-chairman-nominees","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/2025\/10\/09\/tinubu-presides-over-council-of-state-meeting-presents-inec-chairman-nominees\/","title":{"rendered":"Tinubu Presides Over Council of State Meeting, Presents INEC Chairman Nominees"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>By Onilede Titi Faith<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>President Bola Tinubu on Thursday presided over a meeting of the Council of State at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, where he presented nominees for consideration as the next Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).<\/p>\n<p>The meeting, which began at 1:29 p.m., comes two days after Prof. Mahmood Yakubu completed his 10-year tenure as INEC Chairman.<\/p>\n<p>According to the agenda, Tinubu submitted three nominees for the Council\u2019s consideration, Prof. Joash Amupitan, Justice Abdullahi Mohammed Liman, and Prof. Lai Olurede.<\/p>\n<p>The nominees, all respected legal and academic figures, were earlier screened by the Department of State Services (DSS).<\/p>\n<p>Those physically present include Vice President Kashim Shettima, Secretary to the Government of the Federation George Akume, National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu, Attorney-General of the Federation Lateef Fagbemi (SAN), and Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila.<\/p>\n<p>Also in attendance were Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Speaker Tajudeen Abbas, and several governors, while former Heads of State Gen. Abdulsalami Abubakar and Gen.
