{"id":76322,"date":"2025-10-09T08:30:51","date_gmt":"2025-10-09T08:30:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/?p=76322"},"modified":"2025-10-09T08:30:51","modified_gmt":"2025-10-09T08:30:51","slug":"mob-beats-scavenger-for-allegedly-stealing-zinc-in-kuje","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/2025\/10\/09\/mob-beats-scavenger-for-allegedly-stealing-zinc-in-kuje\/","title":{"rendered":"Mob Beats Scavenger for Allegedly Stealing Zinc in Kuje"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>By Samuel Adeola<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>A mob on Saturday evening attacked a scavenger, identified as Nasiru Yahuza, for allegedly stealing two pieces of zinc in Kango community, Kuje Area Council of the FCT.<\/p>\n<p>A resident, Shuaibu Hussaini, said the incident happened around 5:48 pm when Yahuza entered an ongoing construction site and quietly removed the zinc used to fence the building.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe scavenger was pushing his cart when he entered the compound and removed two pieces of zinc, not knowing a neighbour was watching him,\u201d Hussaini said.<\/p>\n<p>The neighbour reportedly raised an alarm, attracting residents who chased and beat the suspect before vigilantes intervened and handed him over to the police.<\/p>\n<p>A vigilante member, Markus Bala, confirmed the incident and lamented rising theft cases involving scavengers in the area. \u201cThere\u2019s hardly a day that passes without reports of scavengers stealing cooking pots, iron rods, or water drums,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>A police source also confirmed the arrest, adding that the suspect would be charged to court after investigation.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Samuel Adeola &nbsp; A mob on Saturday evening attacked a scavenger, identified as Nasiru Yahuza, for allegedly stealing two pieces of zinc in Kango community, Kuje Area Council of the FCT.
