{"id":76217,"date":"2025-10-07T21:31:58","date_gmt":"2025-10-07T21:31:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/?p=76217"},"modified":"2025-10-07T21:31:58","modified_gmt":"2025-10-07T21:31:58","slug":"cbn-caps-daily-pos-transactions-at-%e2%82%a61-2m-under-new-banking-guidelines","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/2025\/10\/07\/cbn-caps-daily-pos-transactions-at-%e2%82%a61-2m-under-new-banking-guidelines\/","title":{"rendered":"CBN Caps Daily POS Transactions at \u20a61.2m Under New Banking Guidelines"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>By Adenike Lawal<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), has introduced new operational guidelines for Point of Sale (POS), agents across the country, setting a \u20a61.2 million daily transaction limit for agents and \u20a6100,000 for individual customers.<\/p>\n<p>The directive, which takes immediate effect, was contained in a circular signed by Musa Jimoh, Director of the CBN\u2019s Payments System Management Department.<\/p>\n<p>It forms part of broader reforms aimed at strengthening regulatory oversight, promoting financial inclusion, and safeguarding consumers.<\/p>\n<p>According to the circular, all financial institutions must now publish and display lists of their registered POS agents both on their websites and at branch locations, to help customers verify legitimate operators and curb fraudulent activities.<\/p>\n<p>The new framework also standardizes agent banking operations nationwide, addressing issues of agent location, exclusivity, and transaction monitoring.<\/p>\n<p>However, certain provisions, particularly those relating to agent location and exclusivity will take effect from April 1, 2026.<\/p>\n<p>The CBN explained that the limits are designed to encourage responsible market behavior, reduce fraud and money laundering risks, and enhance service quality within the fast-growing agent banking sector.<\/p>\n<p>By tightening transaction rules, the apex bank said it aims to balance financial accessibility with system integrity, ensuring safer and more transparent digital financial services for Nigerians.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Adenike Lawal &nbsp; The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), has introduced new operational guidelines for Point of Sale (POS), agents across the country, setting a \u20a61.2 million daily transaction limit for agents and \u20a6100,000 for individual customers.
