{"id":76189,"date":"2025-10-07T09:48:53","date_gmt":"2025-10-07T09:48:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/?p=76189"},"modified":"2025-10-07T09:48:53","modified_gmt":"2025-10-07T09:48:53","slug":"faan-launches-contactless-universal-card-at-abuja-airport","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/2025\/10\/07\/faan-launches-contactless-universal-card-at-abuja-airport\/","title":{"rendered":"FAAN Launches Contactless Universal Card at Abuja Airport"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>By Onyeanya Ebere Immaculata<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), on Monday unveiled a contactless universal prepaid card at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport (NAIA), Abuja, as part of its \u201cGo Cashless\u201d initiative to modernize payment systems across Nigerian airports.<\/p>\n<p>The card will enable passengers to make fast, secure, and seamless payments at access gates, car parks, VIP lounges, and other service points in all FAAN-managed airports.<\/p>\n<p>Beginning September 29, 2025, FAAN will commence the gradual phase-out of cash transactions at its revenue points nationwide.<\/p>\n<p>FAAN Managing Director\/Chief Executive, Mrs. Olubunmi Kuku, described the innovation as \u201cmore than a payment solution\u201d but \u201ca major upgrade to the passenger experience\u201d and a reaffirmation of the agency\u2019s commitment to transparency, efficiency, and global standards.<\/p>\n<p>She noted that the initiative, first introduced in Lagos, had proven successful and would now be fully implemented in Abuja before expanding to other airports.<\/p>\n<p>According to her, the system will help eliminate cash-related inefficiencies, reduce revenue leakages, and strengthen financial accountability.<\/p>\n<p>FAAN partnered with fintech company Paystack to power the technology behind the contactless system.<\/p>\n<p>The Director of Commercial and Business Development, Ms. Adebola Agunbiade, explained that the initiative will create a traceable financial ecosystem, enhance convenience for travelers, and promote sustainable revenue growth.<\/p>\n<p>Kuku added that the \u201cGo Cashless\u201d policy aligns with international aviation best practices and will significantly improve Nigeria\u2019s competitiveness in global air transport and tourism.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Onyeanya Ebere Immaculata &nbsp; The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), on Monday unveiled a contactless universal prepaid card at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport (NAIA), Abuja, as part of its \u201cGo Cashless\u201d initiative to modernize payment systems across Nigerian airports.
