{"id":76140,"date":"2025-10-06T08:57:54","date_gmt":"2025-10-06T08:57:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/?p=76140"},"modified":"2025-10-06T08:57:54","modified_gmt":"2025-10-06T08:57:54","slug":"fct-vigilantes-nab-man-for-vandalising-high-tension-cables","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/2025\/10\/06\/fct-vigilantes-nab-man-for-vandalising-high-tension-cables\/","title":{"rendered":"FCT Vigilantes Nab Man for Vandalising High-Tension Cables"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>By Olokuta Rofiat<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Vigilante operatives in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), have arrested a man identified as Peters Shina for allegedly vandalising high-tension electricity cables along Ashara village in the Kwali Area Council.<\/p>\n<p>According to a member of the vigilante group, Yunusa Saidu, the suspect was apprehended around 4:23 p.m. on Thursday after residents raised the alarm upon seeing him cutting down fallen cables.<\/p>\n<p>Saidu said Shina, a native of Kabba in Kogi State who resides in Gwako near Gwagwalada, confessed to the crime and was handed over to the police at the Danagra Division.<\/p>\n<p>In a related incident, three other suspects were intercepted while transporting stolen cables in a Golf car near Piri village, also in Kwali.<\/p>\n<p>A police source disclosed that the driver abandoned the vehicle and fled, while the other occupants were arrested after a brief chase by security operatives.<\/p>\n<p>The suspects are currently in custody at the Kwali Police Division, and the vehicle has been impounded.<\/p>\n<p>Cases of electricity cable vandalism have become increasingly rampant across the FCT.<\/p>\n<p>Recently, transmission lines between Manderegi village and Abaji town were destroyed, plunging parts of Abaji into darkness.<\/p>\n<p>Efforts to reach the FCT Police Command spokesperson, SP Adeh Josephine, for comments were unsuccessful, as calls and text messages were not responded to as of press time.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Olokuta Rofiat &nbsp; Vigilante operatives in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), have arrested a man identified as Peters Shina for allegedly vandalising high-tension electricity cables along Ashara village in the Kwali Area Council.
