{"id":76137,"date":"2025-10-06T08:56:23","date_gmt":"2025-10-06T08:56:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/?p=76137"},"modified":"2025-10-06T08:56:23","modified_gmt":"2025-10-06T08:56:23","slug":"gunmen-ambush-and-kill-two-wedding-guests-near-abuja","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/2025\/10\/06\/gunmen-ambush-and-kill-two-wedding-guests-near-abuja\/","title":{"rendered":"Gunmen Ambush and Kill Two Wedding Guests Near Abuja"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>By Olokuta Rofiat<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Two persons returning from a wedding in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), have been shot dead by suspected kidnappers in a late-night ambush, heightening fears among residents of border communities.<\/p>\n<p>According to reports, the victims were among four wedding guests travelling on motorcycles from Gwagwalada to Garam, a community near Bwari on the FCT\u2013Niger State border, when they were attacked around 10:30 p.m. on Friday at Rafin-Azum.<\/p>\n<p>Eyewitnesses said the gunmen flagged down the riders and opened fire when they tried to escape.<\/p>\n<p>One victim died instantly, while another succumbed to injuries at the Bwari General Hospital.<\/p>\n<p>A third person managed to escape, but the whereabouts of the fourth remain unknown, with locals fearing they may have been abducted.<\/p>\n<p>Residents of Bwari and neighbouring communities have expressed deep concern over the rising cases of abduction and armed attacks in the area.<\/p>\n<p>A local leader appealed to security agencies to intensify patrols along the FCT\u2013Niger border, which has become a hotspot for criminal activities.<\/p>\n<p>Confirming the incident, the Suleja Police Area Commander, Muhammad Sani Musa, said he attended the funeral prayers for the victims on Saturday.<\/p>\n<p>Similarly, the Commander of the Forest Security Service in Garam, Dantani Daniel, disclosed that the killings occurred shortly after another attempted kidnapping in Jinkasa village, where a herder was abducted but later escaped.<\/p>\n<p>Reacting to the incident, FCT Minister Nyesom Wike assured residents that Abuja remains safe and secure, describing the attack as an isolated case that does not reflect the overall security situation of the nation\u2019s capital.<\/p>\n<p>The tragic attack once again underscores the growing insecurity around Abuja\u2019s outskirts, particularly in communities bordering Niger State, where criminal gangs continue to operate with disturbing frequency.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Olokuta Rofiat &nbsp; Two persons returning from a wedding in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), have been shot dead by suspected kidnappers in a late-night ambush, heightening fears among residents of border communities.
