Democracy, like development, is always a work in progress,\u201d he stated, encouraging Nigerians not to lose hope despite the nation\u2019s political and economic challenges.<\/p>\n<p>Reflecting on Nigeria\u2019s 65 years of independence, the former lawmaker acknowledged that the country\u2019s journey has been characterized by \u201cfailures, frustrations, and flashes of progress.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>However, he maintained that Nigeria has made remarkable progress compared to its starting point.<\/p>\n<p>Recalling his experiences through colonial rule, military coups, the civil war, and democratic transitions, Ndoma-Egba described Nigeria\u2019s history as \u201ccompressed and complex,\u201d yet a testament to the resilience of its people.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ve had them all at once,\u201d he noted, adding that the country\u2019s continued unity remains one of its greatest achievements.<\/p>\n<p>He also dismissed calls for secession, arguing that no genuine Nigerian truly desires the disintegration of the nation despite widespread frustrations.<\/p>\n<p>During the event, the NUJ presented Ndoma-Egba with an Award of Excellence in recognition of his enduring support for journalism and his over four decades of association with the union in Cross River State.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Olokuta Rofiat &nbsp; Former Senate Leader, Senator Victor Ndoma-Egba (SAN), has described Nigeria\u2019s democracy as \u201ca work in progress,\u201d urging citizens and leaders to remain steadfast in nurturing and sustaining the nation\u2019s democratic ideals.
