{"id":75999,"date":"2025-10-02T13:19:12","date_gmt":"2025-10-02T13:19:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/?p=75999"},"modified":"2025-10-02T13:19:12","modified_gmt":"2025-10-02T13:19:12","slug":"shettima-concludes-unga-germany-engagements-returns-to-abuja","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/2025\/10\/02\/shettima-concludes-unga-germany-engagements-returns-to-abuja\/","title":{"rendered":"Shettima Concludes UNGA, Germany Engagements, Returns to Abuja"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>By Onyeanya Ebere Immaculata<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Vice President Kashim Shettima has returned to Abuja after representing President Bola Tinubu at the 80th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), in New York and holding high-level diplomatic and economic engagements in Germany.<\/p>\n<p>His aircraft touched down at the presidential wing of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, in the early hours of Thursday, where he was received by senior government officials.<\/p>\n<p>In his UNGA address, Shettima called for comprehensive reforms of the United Nations, including a permanent seat for Nigeria on the Security Council.<\/p>\n<p>He argued that Nigeria\u2019s population of over 236 million people, its global stature, and its role as a regional stabilizer demand fair representation in international decision-making.<\/p>\n<p>The vice president also stressed the urgency of closing the global digital divide, declaring that \u201cAI must stand for \u2018Africa Included\u2019.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He advocated sovereign debt relief, improved access to financing and trade, and equitable benefit-sharing from natural resources, particularly for mineral-rich African nations.<\/p>\n<p>Showcasing Nigeria\u2019s development potential, Shettima highlighted the country\u2019s $200 billion energy transition opportunities to global investors.<\/p>\n<p>He also met with UN Secretary-General Ant\u00f3nio Guterres, who expressed support for Nigeria\u2019s Security Council bid.<\/p>\n<p>Shettima reaffirmed Nigeria\u2019s commitment to the UN80 Initiative and the July 18, 2025 resolution on institutional reforms aimed at making the UN more efficient, united, and relevant.<\/p>\n<p>While in New York, he held strategic meetings with international partners, including the United Kingdom and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, and engaged with the Nigerian diaspora, assuring them of continued involvement in national development under the Tinubu administration.<\/p>\n<p>He later proceeded to Germany for additional diplomatic engagements before returning to Nigeria.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Onyeanya Ebere Immaculata &nbsp; Vice President Kashim Shettima has returned to Abuja after representing President Bola Tinubu at the 80th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), in New York and holding high-level diplomatic and economic engagements in Germany.
