{"id":75995,"date":"2025-10-02T13:09:14","date_gmt":"2025-10-02T13:09:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/?p=75995"},"modified":"2025-10-02T13:09:14","modified_gmt":"2025-10-02T13:09:14","slug":"no-deal-reached-with-dangote-refinery-strike-may-resume-pengassan","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/2025\/10\/02\/no-deal-reached-with-dangote-refinery-strike-may-resume-pengassan\/","title":{"rendered":"No Deal Reached with Dangote Refinery, Strike May Resume \u2013PENGASSAN"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>By Onyeanya Ebere Immaculata<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN), has insisted that it did not sign the communiqu\u00e9 that led to the suspension of its nationwide strike against the Dangote Refinery, warning that industrial action could resume without notice if outstanding issues remain unresolved.<\/p>\n<p>Although the union suspended the strike on Wednesday following federal government intervention, PENGASSAN President Festus Osifo said key grievances, especially the alleged illegal dismissal of more than 800 Nigerian workers and their replacement with over 2,000 foreign nationals, mostly Indians have not been addressed.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking at a press conference in Abuja, Osifo clarified that the communiqu\u00e9 circulated after the meeting was not a consensus document but a statement issued solely by the Minister of Labour and Employment, Muhammadu Dingyadi, who chaired the talks.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf you see that communiqu\u00e9, we did not sign it. Normally, it is supposed to be signed by three parties.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We did not sign because some things in it were not okay with us,\u201d Osifo said on Channels Television Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>He explained that although there were \u201cgrey areas\u201d in the document, the union suspended the strike in good faith to allow further dialogue.<\/p>\n<p>However, he stressed that the action could be reinstated if the refinery fails to fulfill its commitments.<\/p>\n<p>Responding to reports that the union\u2019s priority was securing check-off dues, Osifo dismissed the claim as false.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat we prioritised was how our members would return to work and provide for their families,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>PENGASSAN is demanding the immediate reinstatement of the sacked workers.<\/p>\n<p>Osifo noted that the refinery initially refused to reabsorb them until the federal government intervened.<\/p>\n<p>He also rejected accusations of economic sabotage against the workers, describing them as \u201ctotally incorrect.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe release that Dangote made on workers sabotaging the economy was totally incorrect\u2026 That stigma would remain forever. Clearing that was a very big win,\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n<p>Reaffirming the union\u2019s resolve, Osifo added: \u201cIf Dangote does not do the needful, our tools are always available.
