{"id":75738,"date":"2025-09-27T09:07:21","date_gmt":"2025-09-27T09:07:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/?p=75738"},"modified":"2025-09-27T09:07:21","modified_gmt":"2025-09-27T09:07:21","slug":"power-sector-unions-suspend-strike-after-meeting-with-minister","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/2025\/09\/27\/power-sector-unions-suspend-strike-after-meeting-with-minister\/","title":{"rendered":"Power Sector Unions Suspend Strike After Meeting With Minister"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>By Omoniyi David<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The National Union of Electricity Employees (NUEE), and the Senior Staff Association of Electricity and Allied Companies (SSAEAC), on Thursday suspended their strike action after reaching an agreement with the Federal Government.<\/p>\n<p>The decision followed a marathon meeting in Abuja convened by the Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, which brought together the management of the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), the Nigerian Independent System Operator (NISO), the in-house unions, and officials of the Federal Ministry of Labour.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier in the day, NUEE had directed its members in TCN to withdraw their services after the expiration of a strike notice over unresolved grievances.<\/p>\n<p>However, following hours of negotiations, the parties signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), that averted a prolonged shutdown of the power sector.<\/p>\n<p>Under the terms of the MoU, the unions will review the report of a standing committee on October 6 and 7 with a view to commencing implementation later in the month.<\/p>\n<p>TCN and NISO are to jointly assess the financial implications of the report and prepare a detailed implementation plan, which will be presented to both the minister and the unions.<\/p>\n<p>The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), also pledged to fast-track its review of tariffs to support the process, while a follow-up meeting will be convened to resolve any outstanding issues.<\/p>\n<p>The parties further agreed that no employee would be victimised for participating in the strike.<\/p>\n<p>With the resolution, tension in the sector has eased, paving the way for the implementation of long-delayed reforms and improved industrial harmony between management and workers.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Omoniyi David &nbsp; The National Union of Electricity Employees (NUEE), and the Senior Staff Association of Electricity and Allied Companies (SSAEAC), on Thursday suspended their strike action after reaching an agreement with the Federal Government.
