{"id":75706,"date":"2025-09-25T21:56:30","date_gmt":"2025-09-25T21:56:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/?p=75706"},"modified":"2025-09-25T21:56:30","modified_gmt":"2025-09-25T21:56:30","slug":"keyamo-seeks-african-support-for-nigerias-re-election-into-icao-council","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/2025\/09\/25\/keyamo-seeks-african-support-for-nigerias-re-election-into-icao-council\/","title":{"rendered":"Keyamo Seeks African Support for Nigeria\u2019s Re-Election into ICAO Council"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>By Omoniyi David<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, SAN, has urged African states, particularly members of the African Union (AU), to support Nigeria\u2019s re-election into Part 2 of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), Council.<\/p>\n<p>Delivering Nigeria\u2019s statement at the 42nd ICAO Assembly in Montreal, Canada, Keyamo reaffirmed the country\u2019s commitment to the organization\u2019s principles, citing ongoing investments in infrastructure modernization, regulatory reforms, and capacity building to align the aviation sector with global standards.<\/p>\n<p>He noted that Nigeria hosts and remains the largest contributor to the Banjul Accord Group Aviation Safety Oversight Organization (BAGASOO), while also supporting the Regional Accident Investigation Agency (BAGAIA).<\/p>\n<p>He added that Nigeria has met its environmental obligations by submitting its state action plan on carbon emission reduction and voluntarily participating in the Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation (CORSIA).<\/p>\n<p>Commending ICAO\u2019s leadership and the Canadian government for hosting a successful assembly, Keyamo expressed gratitude for the reception accorded the Nigerian delegation.<\/p>\n<p>He called on delegates to look beyond geographical differences and work collectively to achieve ICAO\u2019s goals, stressing: \u201cThe skies may divide our geographies, but through ICAO, they unite our goals and aspirations.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The minister also invited the ICAO Council to the Nigerian International Airshow, scheduled for Abuja from December 2 to 4, 2025.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Omoniyi David &nbsp; Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, SAN, has urged African states, particularly members of the African Union (AU), to support Nigeria\u2019s re-election into Part 2 of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), Council.
