The Nigeria Police Force has arrested popular TikTok content creator Ishaq Abubakar Major in Abuja over a viral video in which he accused Senator Shehu Buba, representing Bauchi South Senatorial District, of having ties to bandit groups operating in parts of the country.<\/p>\n

Major was reportedly picked up by operatives of the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID), at the Maraba-Nyanya junction and is currently being held at the FCID headquarters in Abuja.<\/p>\n

As of press time, the police had not issued an official statement regarding the arrest.<\/p>\n

The development follows a series of TikTok videos in which Major accused Senator Buba, Chairman of the Senate Committee on National Security and Intelligence, of being compromised and unfit for public office due to alleged links with criminal gangs.<\/p>\n

He further criticized the senator\u2019s silence in response to media reports, suggesting it stemmed from fear of exposure.<\/p>\n

In one of the videos, Major referenced a Sahara Reporters publication alleging that Buba was involved in controversial peace negotiations with Bello Turji, a notorious bandit leader accused of mass atrocities across the North-West.<\/p>\n

The report claimed the senator facilitated the talks through Kaduna-based cleric Sheikh Musa Asadus-Sunnah, a move widely condemned by religious leaders and human rights activists.<\/p>\n

Senator Buba has also faced criticism for allegedly fuelling sectarian tensions in Jos, Plateau State, by backing the construction of a multi-million-naira mosque for the Jama\u2019atul Izalatul Bidi\u2019a Wa\u2019ikamatus Sunnah faction just meters from an existing Dariqa Sufi Brotherhood mosque.<\/p>\n

The close proximity of the two worship centres, given their history of theological conflict, has sparked fears of potential violence.<\/p>\n

Further outrage was reported after a church was allegedly demolished to make way for the new mosque, an act Christian residents described as provocative and insensitive.<\/p>\n

In his constituency, Buba has also been accused of neglecting an unfinished mosque project in his hometown of Toro while prioritizing the Jos mosque initiative.<\/p>\n

Prominent northern cleric Sheikh Murtala Asadah has condemned the senator\u2019s alleged role in the Turji peace talks, warning that granting amnesty to a notorious criminal could backfire politically on President Bola Tinubu\u2019s administration ahead of the 2027 general elections.<\/p>\n
