The National Orientation Agency (NOA), has called on Nigerians to break the stigma around mental health and suicide, stressing the need for compassion and open dialogue to curb rising suicidal behaviours.<\/p>\n
Speaking in Dutse on Wednesday to mark the 2025 World Suicide Prevention Day (WSPD), NOA Director in Jigawa State, Ahmad Tijjani, said suicide remains a preventable tragedy claiming over 720,000 lives globally each year.<\/p>\n
\u201cSuicide is preventable, and together we can change the narrative by breaking myths and stigma,\u201d Tijjani said.<\/p>\n
He urged Nigerians to check in on family, friends, and neighbours, noting that \u201csometimes a simple question can save a life.\u201d<\/p>\n
He encouraged people to listen without judgment, promote professional counselling, and share information on available support services.<\/p>\n
