{"id":75270,"date":"2025-09-10T05:22:45","date_gmt":"2025-09-10T05:22:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/?p=75270"},"modified":"2025-09-10T05:29:06","modified_gmt":"2025-09-10T05:29:06","slug":"bye-bye-to-agbero-extortionists-as-amac-inaugurates-special-taskforce-in-abuja","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/2025\/09\/10\/bye-bye-to-agbero-extortionists-as-amac-inaugurates-special-taskforce-in-abuja\/","title":{"rendered":"Bye-Bye to Agbero, extortionists as AMAC Inaugurates Special Taskforce in Abuja"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>By Samuel Adeola<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), has unveiled plans to establish a special taskforce to clamp down on touts and extortionists harassing motorists across the city.<\/p>\n<p>The council\u2019s Senior Special Assistant on Media and Public Affairs, Mr. Kingsley Madaki, disclosed this in Abuja while reacting to the recent tragic incident at Mabushi involving a couple and two touts.<\/p>\n<p>Madaki condemned the act, extended condolences to the bereaved families, and stressed that the perpetrators were neither AMAC staff nor agents of the council.<\/p>\n<p>According to him, the chairman of AMAC, Mr. Christopher Maikalangu, has directed the immediate constitution of the taskforce to identify and prosecute individuals impersonating council officials.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe executive chairman has resolved to inaugurate a strong taskforce to arrest anyone impersonating AMAC and extorting money from motorists. These people are not our staff,\u201d Madaki stated.<\/p>\n<p>He further explained that the operation will cover major hotspots, including Area 1 Roundabout, Area 2, Berger Underbridge, Jabi, and Banex.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe will fish them out, arraign them before a mobile court, and ensure they are prosecuted immediately.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Offenders will end up in the Kuje Correctional Centre,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Samuel Adeola The Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), has unveiled plans to establish a special taskforce to clamp down on touts and extortionists harassing motorists across the city.
