{"id":75116,"date":"2025-09-08T04:18:31","date_gmt":"2025-09-08T04:18:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/?p=75116"},"modified":"2025-09-08T04:18:31","modified_gmt":"2025-09-08T04:18:31","slug":"dangote-vs-nupeng-union-vows-to-strike-as-abuja-meeting-holds","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/2025\/09\/08\/dangote-vs-nupeng-union-vows-to-strike-as-abuja-meeting-holds\/","title":{"rendered":"Dangote vs NUPENG: Union Vows to Strike as Abuja Meeting Holds"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>By Olokuta Rofiat<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The National Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG), on Monday reaffirmed its resolve to embark on a nationwide strike, despite a high-level intervention meeting convened by the Federal Government with the Dangote Group in Abuja today.<\/p>\n<p>The Minister of Labour and Employment, Muhammad Dingyadi, is leading the government\u2019s mediation efforts.<\/p>\n<p>The outcome of the conciliation meeting is expected to determine whether the industrial action will go ahead.<\/p>\n<p>At the core of the standoff are recruitment policies at the Dangote Refinery, which NUPENG alleges bar tanker drivers and other employees from unionising.<\/p>\n<p>The union described the practice as \u201cmodern-day slavery\u201d and a violation of constitutional and international labour rights.<\/p>\n<p>NUPENG leaders accused the Dangote Group of engaging in anti-union activities, warning that unless their grievances are addressed, the union will shut down fuel distribution nationwide.<\/p>\n<p>As the Abuja talks continue, stakeholders are watching closely.
