Daniel Bwala, Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Policy Communication, has retracted his description of Lagos as a \u201cno-man\u2019s land,\u201d clarifying that the state historically and constitutionally belongs to the Yoruba people.<\/p>\n
Bwala made the clarification on Wednesday via his official X handle after his earlier comments on Arise Television\u2019s Daybreak programme sparked widespread criticism.<\/p>\n
He stressed that Lagos\u2019s Yoruba heritage \u201chas never been in contention\u201d and cautioned against misinterpreting his statement.<\/p>\n
\u201cCulturally, historically, and constitutionally, Lagos belongs to the Yoruba people, and that has never been in contention,\u201d he wrote, adding that its identity as a Yoruba homeland is \u201csettled and beyond dispute.\u201d<\/p>\n
The presidential aide explained that his remarks were intended to highlight Lagos\u2019s dual role as Nigeria\u2019s commercial hub and cosmopolitan city, not to question its ownership.<\/p>\n
Comparing Lagos to New York, Paris, and London, he argued that its strategic importance requires substantial federal investment to sustain its economic and social responsibilities.<\/p>\n
He emphasized that such support was not because Lagos is \u201cno-man\u2019s land\u201d but because it remains the heartbeat of Nigeria\u2019s development.<\/p>\n
Earlier on Arise TV, Bwala defended the N3.9 trillion worth of federal projects allocated to Lagos over the past two years, calling the city \u201cthe hub of Nigeria\u201d and \u201cthe pride of the country.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
